if construction worker or ordinary laborer mag abroad, he can get at least 5x his salary and can probably save some. if an engineer or pro goes abroad, he'll probably earn more and save more. pero the bottom line is retirement planning and what to do with the earnings. i think it's safe to say that 70% of OFW's doesn't have financial management skills nor education. they go abroad and excited on their first project, a house. which is actually an expense since it's not something that would bring in money. after the house, they would spend for appliances, or a car, and for other stuff that also don't bring in money. most of them don't have emergency funds, nor know what an emergency fund is for. all they know is that they have a house, and maybe, can live off of their take home pay, and as usual, Filipino tradition, have their kids take over the financial responsibilities like paying for their bills, medical expenses, etc.

if you check your nearest sabungan, karamihan dyan na mukhang big time ay ofw or ex-ofw. then katagalan, wala ng pera yan kakaalaga ng manok at kakasabong. yung mindset kasi ng karamihan, they've done their job, and they deserve to relax.
