The big boy from China has arrived. It slots in nicely between utes like the HiLux and Ranger and bigger utes like the Tundra and F-150. But, does it have enough poke to make a splash? Paul Maric takes it for a comprehensive test drive to find out.

I’ve had my GWM cannon for years now. They are so much better built then they used to be. This will be a weapon

I have no idea why I’m watching a review for a Ute, but gotta say that interior looks awesome.

The good thing about the Chinese cars flooding the market here in Australia is hopefully other car manufacturers will wake up and stop ripping us a new one with there overpriced vehicles 🚗

The dash cam port in the mirror is brilliant and should be on every car

Like this beast. My friend has driven GWM Cannon travelled over 100, 000kms in 3 years. It's a very solid and reliable ute. I guess this new beast will be even better. Like more competition. Tesla has dropped at least $35k in Australia because of competition.

Wow was amazed by its offroad capabilities compared to other utes, plus good room in the rear seat

I'm not sure why you didn't say anything about the sunroof, but that's one great feature I was waiting for on this review

Excellent work from GWM, you don't have to like it to see how they have grown its incredible. Don't ever forget Jeremy Clarkson said most of us will be driving Chinese cars..they are flooding all car markets globaly. 27:00 it was built for offroading hence it's so impressive.

People need to stop being patriotic about buying cars that are no longer made in Australia. Everyone’s hurting with the cost-of-living. I will definitely be buying a Chinese car so much cheaper. Great value for money.

I appreciate that its a big old ute, and 480nm isnt a heap given its size/weight, but its funny hearing paul say “480nm isnt all that much”. 480nm in a ute about 10 years ago was unbelievable. The hilux from 2005-2015 only had 340 odd nm’s. The tunes they had in utes in the mid 2000’s were super mild compared to where theyre at now.

GWM are always good at off-road, i think it's their best perk.

With all the dual cab reviews its impossible to purchase the wrong one.

Good review, some info on the sunroof would have been good, unless I missed it. Overall quite an impressive Ute for that money.

I noticed this dude is quite biased he loves his fords and rams but very casual with other makes

Great review, thanks Paul.

Incidentally you referred to the GWM logo on the front grille and the key fob. That’s actually the Poer logo, and the GWM logo is actually different/separate. The original/standard Cannon (L/X/Vanta) carries both logos.

I think Paul forgot to mention the rear seats also recline a bit!

Thanks for the review Paul. The only thing that I ask for is a bit of consistency - I've seen reviews of cars canned because theyre shit over the sine waves but comfortable everywhere else, but this one is good over the sine waves but too rough. I just dont know where the happy medium is. Could you consider putting a video together comparing the attitudes of various vehicles side-by-side to talk more about that and also the condensed sine waves test?
