I admit it! I messed up! Trying to Free Motion Quilt on my new(ish) Baby Lock Jazz 2 - Totally got it wrong! But with Persistance and Patience, it finally worked:) When in doubt - Step. Away. From. The. Machine!! LOL!

Join me for Truelove Family stories (which I have many, as a mother of 10 kids), Mothering Autism, with our Maxwell on our many fun car rides, and Free quilting class and sewing lessons! And as in a 'classroom' setting, my tutorials are approximately 1/2 hour+ long....So Join me in my home sewing room, out and about and trying to make all sorts of quilted goodies! Be aware ~ I like to chat and probably repeat myself over and over, (and stutter sometimes), and if this annoys you, then view elsewhere - but, if patient, you hopefully will learn a new method or technique and get an insight into a very large family and their crazy fun:)

And as always: Love From The Trueloves;)

Jean, we appreciate your honesty and the way you 'keep it real'. You don't sugarcoat it but speak with grace and clarity. You always give the pros and the cons that then allows a viewer to choose if they want to pursue the product or not. Can't wait to see the finished product!

Thanks for your candid review. Sometimes it does take patience and walking away to clear the air.

HI Jean, my sentiments exactly, walk away! That is what I do, otherwise you could put your head in your hands and cry! Thank you for the great tutorials, they are brilliant! Love form the UK.

You have so much room with the enormous throat, and having your table on as well. Very nice 🙂❤️ Again, I'm so proud of you for not giving up. You go girl!😊🎉🤗

Thank you Jean I will try that. I have a blocked oil gland on my eyelid and it makes my vision blurry so I have to wait a few days. Always something. I appreciate your help and can't wait to try it.

Im proud of you for reading, looking up what others have done, and most of all, you kept trying and succeeded. 😊❤ My machine is quite particular about FMQ. After dropping the feed dogs, you put the stitch length and width at 0 (zero). Then you decide your speed, or maximum speed. Occasionally, you have to adjust the tension. If there's a lot of piecing, you need more tension. It has to do with extra width in the quilt sandwich. My mother's machine is particular as well. You have to adjust the length and width. My instructions explain that the length and width of the stitch is dependent upon the speed and movement of your quilting. Her machine, you have to turn length, width and tension sky high, after dropping the feed dogs. My instructions made sense... after dropping the feed dogs, the length and width are not important as the feed dogs control this. 😊❤

Jean you are awesome! I have had issues with two different machines with the stitching and like you felt I tried everything, but I really haven’t and after watching this, I will troubleshoot the issue again! Thank you for sharing your struggles, as many of us struggle too and it gives hope that we can figure it out.

Jean, thank you for an updated review of the Baby Lock 2. I was the person whose daughter purchased the Baby Lock 2 after seeing your first review. I did share this video with her as well. She will be trying some free motion quilting on this machine at some time and wanted to show here that it can be done and do not get discouraged if she has any issues with it. She loves the Jazz 2 so far and really loves the large throat space of 12 inches. Her original Singer she purchased had only 3 to 4 inches of throat space and she made 3 beautiful quits with it. Thanks again for another honest and informative review. Keep them coming.

You, are so funny, I love listening to your trials and tributation! I learned quite a few things from you years ago. I'm back at quilting again after retiring. ❤

So glad that you figured it out on your new JazzII quilting machine Yay for you Jean.
I like the motto "Step away from the Machine" when things aren't going right. Sometimes I step away and return the next day.
Thanks, for sharing.

thank you so much for showing your set up on J2 because I was having the same issue with free motion quilting, it was so bad that I return to free motion quilting on my brother cause I couldn't figure what I was doing wrong on my J2. Just tried with your settings and I'm back in love with my J2. Thank you so much

I bought a JAZZ machine 6 years ago. I've not tried free motion quilting on it, but have done lots of straight line quilting. The increased surface space is the main reason I purchased it. I'm happy to do quilting and apply binding on it, but am not happy with piecing quilt blocks or tops. No matter what I try, the machine wants to chew the fabric. So, I use my Elna or Janome for piecing. My JAZZ machine is quite picky about thread, absolutely no Coats and Clark! It's also picky concerning the bobbin. I often have to make a second attempt. I was hoping I had purchased a machine that "did it all." It has saved me from taking all my quilt projects to the long arm quilter. So glad you resolved your FMQ issues.😊

Sounds like my recent quilting issues, but with my juki that I’ve successfully quilted quite a few quilts on. I tried all the things, but didn’t have the pressure foot down far enough for my thinner quilt. Evidently no one but me makes such a thin quilt 😂😂😂 When it all works it’s fun, but when it doesn’t it’s not enjoyable at all 😤😤😤just one little thing can totally throw it all off! I’m glad you figured it out, (and me too 😊)❤❤❤

Jean, you are so funny. Your face was a picture sewing then.
Happy your machine can do free motion quilting.
You just make everyone happy from D UK🇬🇧

My Jazzabelle likes to have her stitch length at 0 even though the feed dogs are down and it def works better with the needle in the right position instead of the center but every machine is different just like same make/models/year cars will drive differently. The FB group is really helpful and I like to check in with them often. And I agree if we get frustrated we need to just step away and take a break.

Jean, so true 😂. I've been sewing for about 70 years now and step away from that thing and come back later or preferably the next day is best advice you can give. I remember when I was first learning how to put a zipper in . I ended up throwing the thing across the room and leaving that mess. I did get myself together at a later time and learned to put those zippers in . In record time no less. On a more recent note, I've been teaching my granddaughter how to sew and make a quilt and we had a very similar experience as yours. The machine was acting up pretty much like you described that yours was doing and I just wasn't getting anywhere with it so we gave it up and she went home. The next day I thought I'd give it another go and redid all the threading and bobbin and I guess was just tired or something the day before because it started sewing just great 👍. I think we all have those days occasionally. Hopefully they're few and far between. I'm hoping you and your family have a wonderful new year. [No more of those catastrophes.] ❤

I have this machine. I keep my tension at 8, works great 😊 I bought a used long arm frame and have the Jazz on it.
Glad you got it working nicely!

Good morning Jean from a very frosty but bright day in Wales. Glad you sorted out your problems with the Baby Lock. Nothing worse than not knowing what the problem is. Love to all the Trueloves 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
