He had everything stripped away only thing he had left was his obsession finding obi wan and when he did he found peace knowing the sith would be destroyed so no more like him had to be made to suffer loose and be thrown away.

I think savage and griveous just was visions from the dark side, savage was his brother and i don't think he would blame him of what happened.

If there was ever a character I pity in Star Wars it's Darth Maul. Technically, he didn't ask for any of it to happen to him. All his choices were made for him, until his brother found him.
