Blender 2.8 Cycles How to hide hdri background but keep lighting and reflections

Показать описание

In this blender (2.8) tutorial we go over how to hide a hdri background so that it is invisible in the render (while keeping the lighting and the reflections) in cycles render. An hdri can be thought of as a spherical background image that used for lighting and reflection information.

Step 1:
Have an hdri or any environment setup in the world output surface

Step 2:
Go to the render tab and go to "Film"

Step 3:
Click the transparency checkbox

I wouldn't have believed it would be that simple. Thank you!
Also, it works on Eevee too

Thank you! But when I switch to transparent, I get the checkerboard thing in my actual viewport.

Edit: Figured it out. Preferences > Themes > User Interface > Transparent Checkerboard. Then changed the darker gray to the same value as the lighter gray. Maybe there's a better way but that at least was a workaround.

thank you! I'll never understand why Blender hide these things away in sub sub sub menus... surely there's a better way of presenting that option. Like why would a user think to look in "film"?

What do I do if I want to add another background, but keep the lighting and render with the other background but not have the hdri show up?

And in this case, how to leave a dark background to remove the chessboard?
