Hi! I live on Lombok and just one correction. We have so many Gojek drivers here! So many men just sitting around waiting for business. Cheaper than taking a taxi is a personal driver. So many available and you can negotiate the price. We also have Grabfood if any tourists visiting want to use.

When you do the waterfalls in the north, there are 3 more amazing waterfalls which you can take in a one day tour (5 waterfalls) ... the walk between the waterfalls is fun and an adventure for itself.

For surfing lovers, most tourists choose Mentawai Island which is in the west of Sumatra because there is one of the best surfing spots in the world and the late Paul Walker also once had a simple house there

Joel, , if you want to develop your surfing skills you should try many others empty spots in Indo, i recommend Tarimbang beach in sumba, beach are seriously superb, mostly empty
Or Marosi beach (also in Sumba) and Rote island. And whenever you feel comfortable enough on the surf board, Mentawai islands is "The Place", surfer paradise.

Totally love Lombok.
I did stay in Senggigi (Sheraton), and seen the waterfalls (Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep waterfalls), as well as waterfalls like Benang Stokal and Benang Kelambu, seen Mount Rinjani from the views, did the South Lombok beaches (Selong Belanak, Kuta, Mawun and Tanjung Aan). I did think the Pink Beach was a bit overrated. Also did the main Gili Islands (Gili T, Gili Air and Gili Meno) and the Secret Gilis (Gili Kedis, Gili Sudak and Gili Nanggu). Visited a few mosques on the island especially Lombok Islamic Centre in Mataram and the big mosque in Kuta.
Personally I just think Lombok much more nicer than Bali but that is just my opinion.

It seems a good option for people who have a scooter license. Too isolated otherwise. The beaches look quite pretty, especially for people from countries without good beaches. I agree that Bali and the Gillis have become over-touristed, even Lembongan which used to be quiet.
