Genshin Impact has a weird way of loading things. Instead of draw distance, they have load zones. When enemies cross these zones, it can lead to some odd behavior...

Resources used:
- Genshin Impact OST, in order of appearance: "A Cunning Trick," "Separated Dream," "Cautious Explorers," "Traum durch die Dämmerung, erster Satz," "Knights of Favonius," "Melody of Hidden Seeds"
- Graphics sourced from official Genshin Impact promotional materials

That hilichurl killed both the traveler and Zhongli from a state of nonexistence with the power of sheer determination. Definitely the most powerful hilichurl.

It's weird how I've been playing for over a year and never noticed or knew about loading zones.

I've found one in the vanarana of the past, right near the statue of 7. If you go from the statue and behind the nest it's in, you'll see a pyro abyss mage at a bonfire. Go past it almost until the Paimon barrier and they disappear

As always you answer questions we didn't know we wanted to ask

I see this a fair amount in co-op and had just blamed lag. Good to actually know what causes it!

i feel like the more complex the environment gets, the smaller they make enemy loading zones to, well, reduce the load

That's weird. Ive never seen enemies disappear. They following me, then coming back to their spot. Never disappear

Upd: now its happening all the time. Araumi ruinguard dashes to edge of the cliff, and disappear when I came close to it. I swear I farmed this guy hundreds of time and its only started after this video. Moosashi cursed me

As somebody that used to play A TON in co-op in the early days this was really interesting to learn about. It's one thing to see something happen but it's another to learn why it happens

yeah i definitely noticed this with the inazuma ruin grader in the video, golden apple archipelago in 2.8, and in sumeru. fascinating to take a close look at their mechanics

I noticed it first on the archapelagos as well, where they used it on mona's island to delete all entities so you could see the points of light used for the puzzle where you use wind to look from above the island, but it felt a little TOO aggressive as you could very easily cross it even when you didn't want to.
Ever since I've been noticing these loading zones more and more. I didn't remember any of them showing up in inazuma but since archapelagos rerun it became a bit jarring.

These loading zones are so annoying, I accidentally find some all the time. Some are so absurdly small, some are so absurdly small it's actually hard to not accidentally unload the enemies while fighting them.

There's one particularly finicky one in the chasm. It contains a Treasure Hoarder who stands by a cliff; if the player stands just at the edge of that cliff, the enemy will unload. If you throw him off the edge and unload him while airborne, he will respawn where he lasts stood.

something i noticed while put of bounds in sumeru desert is that they used alot of loading zones for underground structures and dungeons where alot of structures would disappear but whether the collision was removed or not was inconsistent

How sweet! The hilichurl was giving the traveler and Zhongli back massages. 😌

I think the first time I actually found one of these kind of load zones was in the Chasm, when (close to the entrance) climbing up a certain ladder will spawn a treasure hoarder, but as soon as i let go of the ladder, he despawns; I still remember it clear as day. Since then I found a lot of this kind of enemies, but never thought of doing more with them than just having fun spawning and despawning them for a couple seconds, very neat findings

I noticed the Thunder Lawarchurl disappearing and I thought it was a bug. Well loading zones makes more sense
