President Trump promises to be a great friend of homeschooling, and for this we are so very thankful, but we are also thankful that he is too wise to put homeschooling on the government dole.

I watched the movie "The Marva Collins Story" on YouTube years ago. She pulled her children out of public school and any children who wanted to come to be taught in her home. She refused government help. Her school, Westside Prep, thrived. It was still in Chicago when I watched the movie. That inspired me to homeschool without financial help. It's been a fantastic adventure!

Living in Florida, we have a scholarship called the PEP. We get about $7, 000 per child. We don’t have any issues with Christian curricula, and we don’t have to have a certain amount of hours or anything. We do have testing at the end of the year but it doesn’t matter what the kids score because their names aren’t attached to their scores. It’s just to see if yeh program as a whole is beneficial. I know because one of my kids bombed the math portion and nothing happened. It’s been a HUGE blessing for us. My kids can also do ballet, gymnastics, and karate. We’ve done amazing field trips and there is a shop that we can buy things from like toys, games, schools supplies and curriculum, desks, book shelves etc and it’s comes right out of their scholarship.

It’s a Trojan horse. The day after the election I wrote a letter to the President-elect expressing my concern about this and asking him to be careful about protecting our freedom by not giving homeschoolers government money. I’m very pleased that you made a video on the subject because I have mainly seen great excitement over this and not skepticism.

New Hampshire has Education Freedom Accounts. Many people are skeptical but as a mother of six, schooling 4, living in poverty, it has been such a relief to have a couple thousand dollars per child per year. I don't have to spend hours literally creating math curriculums from scratch by hand because I couldn't even afford printer ink. I can't wait to enroll my kids in a ceramics class.

I’m a former teacher and before I left Facebook in 2020, I was part of a group in Texas that fought against stuff like this.
In Texas we have complete freedom, no curriculum checks, no paperwork, no tests, no time restrictions. I want to keep that parental freedom and want no part of the government handouts of any kind. I’ve been a first hand witness to their horrible regulations and choose to protect my children from that. Even when I was getting my teaching degree I was told that I wasn’t allowed to teach real history. When I was teaching 3rd grade the tests were all the school cared about, so we were forced to teach more on how to manipulate a test for a higher score than for the kids to truly learn the material in a deeper way.

I don't want the government involved with my Homeschool. They can keep their money

You're wise on this! 👍🏿 I was thinking the same I hate how easily swayed people can be. So many don't use common sense or discernment 😢

We are part of a charter in Oregon and while you can’t use the funds for Christian material, you can use it for all sorts of other things. It was been an incredible blessing making homeschooling a possibility that we wouldn’t be able to consider financially otherwise as only parent family. I’m a widow and our funds are tight. The small amount of funding has opened the door for us to be able to afford homeschooling.

From another perspective, money for homeschooling, like in my state of Florida, actually makes it possible for some women to afford to have big families and stay home with all their children. We get about $9k (county and age dependent) per child over the age of 5, which adds up. As someone else already said it can pay for any type of activity they might get in a school setting like music lessons, sports/enrichment, and field trips, and Christian support services and curriculum. Even teaching your children to bake or sew or all kinds of important things are covered, and can really make a difference so that a mother doesn't feel pressured to work outside the home due to finances. In that regard it is nice that the government is supporting stay-at-home moms and encouraging home schooling.

Thank you!! I just saw this in a different channel (that of a pastor, actually). They were speaking in favor of it and was I surprised to see all the support in the comments! 😣 Paper, pencil, books don’t cost that much! It’s not theirs to give anyway. Don’t co-parent with the government. As we have seen, bad things happen when that occurs. 😌

So glad you addressed this! I'm in ak and we home educate independently. The money has plenty of strings attached and IS a Trojan horse and there was a video put out Exposing a Trojan Horse that all God fearing home educators should watch. Again, thanks for addressing this.

Thanks for making this video! We do need to get rid of property tax so we can fund our own homeschools well.

I totally agree. I love that we have an income president who is a homeschool ally, but I also that it opens the door for more government control and accountability.

My husband and I are actually looking forward to this tax cut. We own a small business and have to track medical, giving and business expenses….. all tax write offs. But usually we don’t hit the required spending threshold to actually benefit from a tax cut. With this new tax cut for educational expenses, x5 children, we should be able to reach the threshold. We won’t take money from the government but we will take relief from extra taxes.

We live in Florida and have a PEP scholarship. Our family chooses not to take it for the reasons you’ve gone over. Many homeschoolers in Florida are taking the money. We’ve noticed that because so many people can now pay for all the things, prices have shot up making it very difficult for those of us who are not taking the scholarship to continue to be involved in the activities we used to do. But God is gracious and He’s helped us to find ways to make our own activities.

Instead of schools getting $10K+ per child, that money will go back to taxpayers. It's a great idea. I do hope Trump will keep his promise. If we can approach this idea differently from the regular home schooling model, parents can form a "private home school" network or a community center that collaborates and uses that fund to form an educational focused curriculum for their children while they enjoy learning and developing the life skills they need.

I think a homeschool child tax credit would work if you homeschool your child you get 5000 toward your child's education weather its used for field trips to museums or what ever, transportation, laptops, arts and crafts, assertions pens pencil paper exc if the school gets 10, 000 a year per child why aren't homeschool children provided the same funding

I'm glad there are those that feel as we do..no government help. I like that it is optional here in FL. If we homeschooled and used the pep scholarship we'd have to unregister our homeschool. So you are not categorized as a homeschooler nor a public school student. What happens in legal cases? What are your rights if you fall into this "new" category? I'm just not comfortable with that. I'd rather stay home and figure out the how piece myself with the Lord's help. It is a busy life but a rich life. Don't have the nice looking cars, not wealthy, but rich in hard work and lots of love. I'm grateful to no longer be under Govt funding. There's freedom in it. You have to stay true to your convictions and ours is.. never look to the government for help.

I also live in Florida and know all about the PEP scholarship, but I’m skeptical. Right now I’ve been saying to friends who encourage me to get it, “I want to see how this goes”. I just wonder if there will ever be ramifications in the future or unforeseen penalties. Homeschooling pioneers wanted to be left alone from the government so they could educate their children in their own way. I’m thankful that no one has been denied the use of Christian curriculum with the Florida PEP scholarship, but I am cautiously watching to see if they begin to add limitations over time. I also personally like being able to turn in my child’s portfolio and receive a one-on-one evaluation. Standardized tests serve a purpose for seeing how much a child is learning, but I welcome the differences homeschooling has… I don’t want to be similar to public school. Homeschooling was, by design, meant to be different. It should be distinctly hands-off from the government’s reach.

Texas needs prayers and voices heard. SB2 is an educational voucher with explicit language requiring state approved curriculum and state testing.
