Tolkien didn’t create the languages to flesh out his literary world, he created his literary world to aid him in creating languages that are closer to an actual evolved language rather than something just made up at a set point like most other fictional languages. Languages evolve based on their speakers and the terrain, wars and other external factors that those speakers experience, so he built a world with its many inhabitants and events to aid him in simulating that evolution of language.

That's... not what Tolkien was doing _at all._ LotR is a fictionalized prehistory of Europe. He did it largely as a linguistics project.

I was trying to develop my own flora for my fantasy world. Couldn't think of anything that could replace potatoes. So there's weird trees and desert potatoes now. I love potatoes.

When my mom and dad were dating on one of their dates my dad just started going off about potatoes, like "potatoes have got to be the most versatile food there is..." And my mom was like "I'm marrying this man"

I like how also the common image of medieval European peasant and fantasy medieval European inspired peasant is one having diet consisting mostly of potatoes, while potatoes weren't even eaten in Europe in middle ages.
