Not answering the question but sonic 06 used to be my favorite game (now it’s shadow generations)
I completely understood why it was regarded as one of the worst sonic games but being able to play all those characters which had different movesets was really fun and the story (except the kiss scene) was definitely one of the best stories in the series.

I love when people talk about the worst Sonic game, no one ever talks about Sonic Free Riders. It's literally unplayable if you don't own a Kinect and even then, it barely functions.

Oh wow, this is the first time I've been in this spot. Sonic 4 is legitimately one of my favorites. I played tf out of it in high school, loved splash hill zones ost, and loved replaying it. This caught me extremely off guard lol

Two best Sonic games:

Sonic Adventure - Very much peak Sonic. Movement feels good the hub areas are a cool thing that makes the game feel connected. Pretty much this is Sonic’s Mario 64 imo.

Sonic Mania - I like the 2d games a lot and Sonic mania gives you the most bang for your buck. It includes the most interesting stages from past games and the art direction plus the massive effort put into the game really pay off it is obvious it was made with love.

Honorable Mention: Sonic CD - I just can’t decide whether I really love this game or whether it’s just a decent 2d Sonic game. I like the past and future mechanic but the levels are really crowded and it doesn’t always form a comprehensive world. The special stages were my favorite of the entire franchise though and I felt really rewarded when I put in work to actually get the good future because by the time the boss fight came the world looked totally different than it did when I played before and it was super dreary. The music was different the aesthetic was way more cheery and I liked that.

Worst 2 Sonic games:

Sonic 4: You already said it for me.

Sonic 3d Blast: Gave me a retina migraine when I was 12 I will not forgive it for that

Honorable mention: Sonic 06 - It definitely sucked but honestly if the team had longer with the game and if for half the development they weren’t trying to also make it work for the Wii, which was way too underpowered at the time, I feel like a lot of the bugs would have been worked out and a couple of the story aspects and bad game mechanics would have probably been fixed or scrapped.
