T-Mobile has launched an interesting new 5G data-only device, the TCL Linkport IK511. First announced on October 16th, the Linkport IK511 is now available online and in some T-Mobile stores. What makes this new device unique is that it's the first commercially available device in the US that supports the 5G Reduced Capability or "RedCap" standard—and it's also the first consumer-available 5G USB modem we've seen come to market.

So, what is RedCap, and is this new USB modem worth consideration in a mobile connectivity arsenal?

Do you know if I put a sim card from another carrier if it will work or is the device locked to only T-mobile?

So I got this for $118 with tax and I got the $30 10 gig plan. So far I like it. I use it to watch YouTube surf the web and check email. It enables the usb c device that I connect it to have internet. This is more secure than connecting to public WiFi and it is way cheaper than having to pay for an internet per device. The speed has been fantastic so far

Also, we are thinking about ordering the TCL LINKPORT IK511, since it maybe more secure and reliable 5G internet connection on the go, for emails, video calls and streaming...

So… If you already have a smart phone with the capability to “hotspot”.— WHY would you want this.??

This seems like the answer to a question that hasn’t been asked.!! No thanks…

T-Mobile can just keep that piece of crap. I wouldn’t have it if they paid me.
