It was great to have a sneak peek of the Golf 8.5 at the SMMT event at Milbrook Proving Ground! A big thanks to @SMMTvideos and also to the @volkswagenuk Press Team fro their continued support!

The Volkswagen Golf MK8.5 / Golf 8 facelift irons out some of the complaints about the Golf 8 with an extra touch of modernness, whilst staying true to its roots, tying in elements from previous Golf models.

A main issue on the pre facelift model was the user interface, with no backlit climate controls, software issues and more. Also on the higher specifications: R-Line, GTI, GTD, GTE, R, the steering wheel buttons were capacitive rather than physical buttons, these could be easily accidentally pressed whilst driving and had a cheap look also, real buttons are now on all models!

The Golf 8 arrived aiming to improve the iconic car, by tweaking the platform to allow for more electrification and moving into the “digital era” the 8.5 continues on with this whilst keeping loyal customers happy with familiar features! Another option which is staying is the manual gearbox, something that was rumoured to disappear on the facelift as with the updated Audi A3, however the manual is here to stay for now.

Thanks for the review i have ordered the Style model in dsg 150ps with a quite a few optional extras ordered the same wheels in your video so I'm pleased with them also in Anemone Blue i have a mk7 so a big improvement in my eyes 👍

A1 s line is priced similarly for identitical specs, isnt A1 better buy here for city driving?

Is there a plastic shortage in Wolfsburg? You could get a brick through that lower grill. Still no return of the bonnet gas strut yet the lowly Octavia gets 2. I paid £just over £22, 000 for a match edition in 2020, equivalent car you are now looking at £30 grand. So much for "The peoples car".
