I was crying my eyes out when I watched Inland Empire for the first time, in an almost empty cinema, and this song came on. After the surreal, reality-bending emotional rollercoaster the film had put me through at this point, this song felt like it was addressing me, directly. Breaking through the wall between film and audience with pure emotion. An almost religious experience.

David Lynch loves This Mortal Coil and it shows here.

It's strange. I like Inland Empire, maybe my favourite Lynch movie. I don't understand it, I don't need to, but it does something to me. This song made it all transcendental. It gave depth, without me knowing what for. For me David Lynch is a masterfull filmmaker, but his connection to music makes his movies extra special. And this song is the perfect fit

Ambiguously speaking, Inland Empire is probably the most _optimistic / hopeful_ ending in Lynchian standard, comparable to much bleaker Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive. Also the fact that it was the *last* film made by David Lynch (before his return to screen with Twin Peaks: The Return after a long hiatus), combined with this ethereal song by Chrysta Bell, made the experience even more bittersweet.

God knows how many times I’ve listened to this song. A beautiful poem for lost souls, a ray of hope sung from the other side with love and tenderness, and understanding. Thanks Chrysta and David

Lyrics:
I sing this poem to you
On the other side I see
Shining waves glowing
It's far away, far away from me,
I can see it there
I can see it there
The wind blows outside
And I have no breath
I breathe again and know I'll have to live
To forget my world is ending I'll have to live

I hear my heart beat fluttering in pain missing something
Tears are coming to my eyes
I cry
I cry
I cannot feel the warmth of the sun
I cannot hear the laughter
Choking with every thought

I see the faces
My hands are tied as I wish
But no one comes
No one comes
Where are you?
Where are you?

What will make me want live
What will make me want to love

Tell me tell me

I sing this poem to you
To you
Is this this mystery unfolding
as a wing floating

Something is coming true
The dream of an innocent child
Something is happening
Something is happening

I'd been meaning to re-watch Inland Empire, but put it off for years, recalling how challenging it is. I was waiting for the right time, the right mindset, I wanted to be sure I didn't cop out halfway through or anything like that. Well, tonight was the night. What a movie! The opening never fails to send shivers up my spine when this song begins...those first few scenes leading up to this music, the brilliant blue light and the lost girl crying may be my favorite cinematic opening of all time. And then to have it recur at the climax of the film....I love that. It's more satisfying even than the denouement of Mulholland Drive. Thank you to yourself and David Lynch for this beautiful collaboration and the crucial part it played in such a magnificent work of art.

Kind of amazing/sad that this doesn't have more views. Such a beautiful song for a beautiful (and disturbing) movie

This song gives me chills & shivers, it is beautiful & haunting. You have such a lovely voice and this song displays it perfectly. This was so incredibly powerful in Inland Empire. I cry every time I get to this part of the film. I am a bit late to getting to The Return (watching it on DVD) and I am really enjoying your performance, Tammy is a delight to watch and a perfect addition to the Blue Rose task force.

The first movie I remember is The Elephant Man when I was about 3. He was my first crush. The emotion David conveyed so beautifully made a huge impression on me.The truest beauty is within. I've continued to love all his work. Chrysta to me seems like a real life siren. Their work is amazing. This is so haunting and beautiful. His death hit me waaay harder than I was prepared for. Like the world lost some of it's color when he left. I'm so glad he was aware how much he was loved.
