Hello and welcome to another video!

Today we are at Dingwall station for the Sunday Splitter! This is a 4 carriage Scotrail train which forms 2H65 at 1754 from Inverness and splits into two portions at Dingwall. The front two carriages continue to Wick as 2H65 and rear the two gain a new headcode 2H87 and form the 1833 from Dingwall to Kyle of Lochalsh.

This arrangement only happens on Summer Sundays with there being an extra train for Kyle of Lochalsh on summer Sunday evenings only.

Back in the early 2000s this arrangement happened every day with a 4 carriage train running from Inverness to Dingwall every evening to split into two portions, however due to issues coupling the two trains together at Inverness and uncoupling them again at Dingwall with delays and cancellations becoming regular, the timetable was changed to run two separate trains from Inverness around 30 minutes apart with the Kyle of Lochalsh train leaving at 1754 and the Wick train leaving at 1831. So now the practice of splitting trains at Dingwall only takes place for a few months on summer Sundays each year.

The split can sometimes take a few attempts but on this occasion it was uneventful with 158709 for Wick and 158703 for Kyle of Lochalsh.
