Hmm, have I just slipped through the cracks of the German Arzttermin bureaucracy as a clueless foreigner? When I was studying for a semester in Hamburg, I got tonsillitis and was seen immediately by a doctor with my student insurance.
I literally just walked in into UKE with my insurance papers and although I had some communication issues (the nurse staff barely spoke English, I barely spoke German, and my sore throat could barely make any noise), it was more or less a pretty efficient experience.
I paid no copay, all my prescription meds cost a grand total of 5 euros, and to this day, is my go-to glowing review of the German healthcare system whenever healthcare or Germany is brought up.

wow, that looks very much like making doctor's appointments in Poland, the public healthcare takes forever and you can be seen to the same day if you go private

I heard such a story recently for German healthcare service: A woman is pregnant and wants to give birth in a better hospital, asks for an appointment, and the answer is: "All places are full until the next year, you have to make an appointment 2 years before giving birth."

While in less developed country like India, you can just walk in to doctors office and get treated in an hour.
Something that Germany can learn.

Danke schön! Gibt es in Deutschland medizinische Untersuchungen, bei denen man gesetzlich verpflichtet ist, teilzunehmen?

#2:24, hmm... I think the sentence should be "Es kommt immer darauf an..." ? If I am wrong, please tell me as well. Thank you.

I didn't understand one thing. Say, I have a public health insurance and need immediate medical attention. But what if I don't get an appointment in a day or two and instead after 4 weeks?
By the time I get the appointment I might have recovered already.
How can I get immediate treatment while having Public Health Insurance?
Cari could you please explain me this part?

thank you for your informative episodes, but you should find a doctor first to make an appointment, too much blah blah about health care in Germany but for foreign people it's Hell!!
