FTM Dealing With Hairloss

When thinking about starting testosterone, losing my hair was a pretty big concern. It is not easy coming to terms with it but I know for me it is inevitable. I want to move past the feeling of fear and embrace the bald. It is nothing to be ashamed of, we can not control it. At the end of the day it is just hair and as long as people still see me as the man that I am then it is all worth it :)

I feel like for ftms it's a bit more shocking because we never thought about going bald, at least if you transition a little later. And then there's the fact that the time we had to live as male with hair is so much shorter usually than for cis guys. But then again, there's cis guys who go bald in their early twenties so I don't know lol.

it's not shallow at all, l feel the same way. i think it's harder when we transition at an older age, at least l find it so. i didn't get to enjoy my teens and early adulthood as a man so it's not fair that after just a few years living as male my hair might disappear!
you are right about body image hitting us hard, we were socialised with it and then we get the double whammy as trans men trying g to be "male enough" !
personally l think bald Jen look really sexy, god look at Patrick Stewart!!!!

Thanks for sharing this Cody. I definitely feel like I'm going to end up with losing my hair too, so I feel ya in this video!!! I agree it's more important to be seen as MALE (even a bald one) than a femaled :) Great video!

Part and parcel of being a man. Not necessarily a negative if you deal with it with confidence

I think I've watched all your videos, but this is by far muy favorite one. When you mentioned how society pressured you to live up to beauty standards when you were perceived as female, and then that you have to live up to men beauty standards it complétala made sense. I always get angry at the fact that society focuses so much on looks. Even if it might be perceived as not that important, as comments we can just ignore, it causes anxiety and depression in many people. You're a very handsome man, you have worked really hard for the body you have (reaching the level of fitness you have requires a lot of patience, discipline and consistency, and those are qualities not everyone has), you're a great cook, and most importantly, you're an awesome person! You are funny, down to earth, gentle, kind, smart... who needs hair with all those awesome qualities? 💙

I've been on T for over 5 years and it wasn't until recently that I've started losing patches of hair. I never thought I'd be balding at all. But, I do recall my hairline receding during the first year of using T. Anyway, I've been watching videos on shaving my head all day today, and I've been thinking of shaving it for a while now. I'm grateful for your video, I don't feel alone. Thank you.

Thanks for making this video. I'm 1.5 yrs on T and my genetics point to me having no hair also. It's already started. I remember in middle school having a teacher ask everyone to raise their hand and he proceeded ask questions about the men in the family and their hair. As he asked questions people put their hand down if it didn't apply. At the end of it my hand was the only one still in the air. He asked if I had any brothers and in said no....he said good cause they'll probably end up bald by 30 at the lastest based on genetics. I still remember that. Knowing all this though....it's still tough to watch it go and accept it at this point for me. Long rant...sorry. Thanks again Cody.

I spent a lot of my female life bald on and off so I am used to eat but being an older FTM guy at 49 I do worry about it because as some guys have said, we didn't have our youth as our true selves---young men. I have to admit that I do fear the baldness with going on T so it's something to consider. Perhaps the worry will subside and I need to be patient and accepting of the fear because we are so conditioned to measure ourselves to accepted and often ridiculous beauty standards.

Your smile is infectious. =) If it's of any consolation, I've had radiation therapy and one-half of my head of hair will never grow back. I started calling myself Two-Face and I made peace with it.

You can ask about the prescription medication that may slow it or stem it to a receding hairline until you were older, though! I think it's for genetic Alopecia, not FtM exclusive, but hair loss is hair loss. Stay confident! I'm going to get a wristband ASAP. =D

I've been watching you for awhile Cody, and I have to say, I don't watch your videos because of the way you look or the physical changes that you made because of testosterone. I watch you videos because I like the way you are and I like the person you became over the time. My mom used to say, when you like somebody, you just don't see their eyes, you see through them. Who really cares about you, won't care how you look.

Rogaine helps a lot. If you're losing it now, then now is the time to start it. It takes at least 4 months for the benefits to show, but they will. You'll have to use it forever, but the foam version works well as a hair care product after a shower. And just once a day works, I think they tell you twice a day just to get you to use more. Also the Costco brand is way less expensive. I'm not saying bald is bad, because bald is okay too. But if you're concerned try the Rogaine/Costco foam.

Your not shallow, your just a guy brave enough to admit it bothers him. My son just turned 34 and is balding. He tried the comb over and did not look good. Have you seen these built good looking sexy men that are BALD. I love bald men. Think of it like this Cody, you don't have to label yourself as a bald transman, how about just a built bald beautiful man. You know you would be the first one to tell someone to embrace their baldness. Love ya keep smiling you have a beautiful smile!

Try shaving it while you still have hair. It will help you prepare for when you do lose ur hair. I recommend this for any guy anxious about hairloss.

Chase Ross talks about balding as well and he was prescribed something to help reduce the hair loss. Maybe you should see if you can take what he does!

After two years i have started loosing hair on the back top of my head. I do hair for a living so its really hard to ignore and i started wearing my hair pushed back all the time. I finally pulled it forward the other day and showed my coworkers. They seemed shocked. Because i guess i still look like i have full hair but its bad enough that its shocking people. It makes it tempting to stop taking. But not tempting enough.

Whenever I think about possibly losing my hair when I go on T, I'll just think of Patrick Stewart and instantly feel better :D I may not look that good but I intend to rock it anyway. Nothing wrong with being bald!

I've been thinking about shaving my head but don't want to do it just yet.lol I've shaved my head once and I was surprisingly happy with hope I looked! Right now though I want to grow out a mohawk and bleach it white. Big fan of Storm from the X-Men!lol After a couple more years though I'm probably going to periodically shave my head, especially in the summer!

It’s also hard for cis men but most people don’t care enough about it. It’s like hey you’re going bald at 20, if you felt undesirable and invisible before try feeling good about yourself now.
