This video was extremely helpful. I've always wanted to get into racing. Maybe one day I'll pull the trigger.

This was super helpful! I raced Formula Vee's from 2000-2005 and I've been thinking of getting back into racing. I'm thinking about some sort of spec fender-car class so this is exactly what I'm looking for. I know this video is from 2018 but I hope you did well on your sticker tires in 2019!

Excellent video! Really shows that you can go racing on a budget - kind of. But you were already set with some important bits and pieces - a tow vehicle, a trailer, safety gear (helmet, fire suit, gloves, boots, Nomex underwear), tools, and it was 4 1/2 weekends - my series is 8 weekends (true, I don't need to do all the races). I did get one idea from you for our series and that was making the take-offs available to newer racers. Are your tracks fairly close or did you sleep in the trailer? Also, you didn't account for test and tune / practice days. Also 13.5 hours on one set of brakes... pretty amazing. My brakes and tires lasted longer in my first season racing... later on ... not so much. BTW - I run an E30 in a spec series in the Pacific Northwest.

Fam I just found out about spec racing today I’m HYPED AF, street racing now at days are just people on a straight line for like 5 seconds on a highway and call it a day. And just donuts in car meets and not a need for speed sprint racing or circuit racing style play. But u telling me there is a racing league that reflects on need for speed pro street type of play . THIS IS LIT

At what extent can you can do ordinary servicing work by yourself ?
That's a relevant point as far as the whole mantainance cost is concerned. Do you need any insurance to attend spec races ?
Thx. a lot for uploading !

You actually spent $3, 750 for 4.5 races, what ever a half race is. And you decided to leave off the cost of the car for some reason. It should be included, so in reality you spent $16, 750 to run 4.5 races. Let's be honest, racing is the quickest way to turn money into noise. And when you get serious, you'll be buying new tires, not running others worn out tires. Tires are speed. There is no such thing as "economy racing", it all costs more than it's worth, and if you count your time at $5 per hour, it's way too much money. When you get into the "lower" class "economy" racing there are always those who think they're going to F1, and they have lots of money. They show up with huge haulers, have all sorts of suspension units, gobs of tires, and plenty of food and drink for the members of the crew. They work out of hanger sized shops with every tool known to man, they have chassis dynos, they have tuners with laptops, they have truck loads of money. And you are not going to beat them no matter how well you drive.
The sooner you get sick of it the better off you'll be. Believe me, I wasted 30 years racing.
