I went to a state grammar school and then to Royal Holloway, the St Andrews of the south, the fall back uni for those private school Oxbridge failures, and I played field hockey. Private school kids have a self belief that supersedes any confidence that a "normal" kid has

I'm really glad I listened to the Charlie bit. He's really helped all of us around the world frankly.
The British elite may epitomise posh assumptions of birthright ease and access, but here in Oz, despite our general g'day owyagoin' drawling, we too follow the British moneyed school system. Alexander Downer is/ was such a politician. He's landed in the UK for life now scoring a monstrous salary for being posh on behalf of Australia.
The accent of the wealthy speaks volumes. He literally said our family is born to be leaders when his daughter as a Melbourne lawyer ran for state election here in a South Oz in my electorate (and lost twice, huffing back to Melbourne).
We all need Charlie. Take up his offer of a 5min spot. He could well be the antidote of universal despair

On the question of Public School "Confidence", it is possibly built from the foundation stone of, "It's not what you know, it's who you know." For example, if the kid was so much trouble and actually gets thrown out of a Public School, it wouldn't really be a problem as Father would put you into the Military as an Officer, or into the "City" with his Bank or Financial Advisor or, if all else fails, into Politics!

Far right radicalism, private schooling (amplifies social dominance personality), the thread of authoritarianism running through centralised institutions, and the nexus of authoritarian leadership and social dominance traits (Bob Altemeyer's theory of 'double highs). All of this is interacting in ways that are now becoming much more visible but also self reinforcing. Nick's approach of standing among the communities that are susceptible to the rot of authoritarianism and facism is spot on
