Мокри́цы (лат. Oniscidea) — подотряд ракообразных из отряда равноногих (Isopoda) класса Высшие раки = Malacostraca.
Высшие раки (лат. Malacostraca) — класс самых крупных ракообразных, включающий таких известных представителей, как крабы, речные раки, креветки, мокрицы и бокоплавы. Содержит более 35 тысяч видов, являясь крупнейшим по численности классом ракообразных.
Все членики брюшка свободные; пять первых пар брюшных ног прикрывают друг друга черепицеобразно; внутренняя ветвь их играет роль жабры, наружная — крышки; твёрдая наружная ветвь первой пары заключает открывающиеся наружу воздушные полости — органы воздушного дыхания.
Наиболее характерные представители семейства относятся к родам Oniscus и Porcellio.
Живут на суше (хотя некоторые и держатся преимущественно у берегов пресных или солёных вод) по большей части во влажных местах: под камнями, под лежащим на земле деревом, в погребах и т. п.
Днём они прячутся, а выходят на поиски пищи вечером или ночью. Питаются растениями, частью разлагающимися, частью живыми, и могут иногда приносить некоторый вред огородным растениям (но вместе с тем они поедают и вредные растения).
Продолжительность жизни: 9—12 месяцев.

A woodlouse (plural -woodlice) is a crustacean from the suborder Oniscidea within the isopods (Class Malacostraca). They are called that from being found in old wood.
Woodlice in the families Armadillidae, Armadillidiidae, Eubelidae, Tylidae and some other genera can roll up into a roughly spherical shape as a defensive mechanism; others have partial rolling ability but most cannot conglobate at all.
he first woodlice were marine isopods which are presumed to have colonised land in the Carboniferous.
The woodlouse has a shell-like exoskeleton, which it must progressively shed as it grows. The moult takes place in two stages; the back half is lost first, followed two or three days later by the front.
A female woodlouse will keep fertilised eggs in a marsupium on the underside of her body until they hatch into offspring that look like small white woodlice curled up in balls. The mother then appears to "give birth" to her offspring. Females are also capable of reproducing asexually.

Many members of Oniscidea live in terrestrial, non-aquatic environments, breathing through trachea-like lungs in their paddle-shaped hind legs (pleopods), called pleopodal lungs.

Woodlice need moisture because they rapidly lose water by excretion and through their cuticle, and so are usually found in damp, dark places, such as under rocks and logs.
They are usually nocturnal and are detritivores, feeding mostly on dead plant matter.
Although woodlice, like earthworms, are generally considered beneficial in gardens for their role in controlling pests,producing compost and overturning the soil, they have also been known to feed on cultivated plants, such as ripening strawberries and tender seedlings.

Woodlice can also invade homes en masse in search of moisture and their presence can indicate dampness problems.
They are not generally regarded as a serious household pest as they do not spread disease and do not damage sound wood or structures.
They can be easily gotten rid of with the help of vacuum cleaners, chemical sprays, insect repellents, and insect killers.

Armadillidiidae is a family of woodlice, a terrestrial crustacean group in the order Isopoda. They are commonly known as pill bugs or potato bugs or rollie pollies. Pill bugs are not insects, but are crustaceans.
