We're getting a better idea of an off-shore wind farm proposed for off the Long Island coast. There is opposition to what would be the largest wind farm in the nation to date, but first, CBS2's Carolyn Gusoff shows us how the Empire Wind Project would look from shore.

Sitting on the beach and looking at the horizon and endless stretch of water is curative, calming and stress reducing for vast numbers of humans. To me, this is defacing the beach. Couldn’t a better place be found?

People, stop sipping the flavor-aid. It’s so tragic so few people research energy and alternatives to legacy fuels.
Wind farms are not carbon neutral from the start. It’s not like the steel, aluminum, carbon fiber, coatings and fiberglass are harvested from some agricultural plot. All of the components require petroleum and sometimes coal-fired electricity to mine, process and manufacture.
Wind generation is not an efficient way to generate power.

The laws of physics get in the way. In 1919, German Physicist Betz determined that “not more than 59.3% of the kinetic energy in the wind can be used to spin a turbine and produce electricity.”
I’m not advocating that the US remains dependent on legacy fuels like coal and petroleum either as they are not energy-dense enough to be more than 40% efficient.
In lieu of hundreds of turbine, NJ should consider nuclear power generation as the future.

Nuclear energy is a secure, dependable source of power for the United States. It is not subject to unpredictable weather or climate conditions, and consumers benefit greatly from the fact that nuclear fuel costs fluctuate less often than other fuel sources. Nothing is burned to make steam with nuclear power.
