Rehearsing Pentozali

What an amazing day last Sunday was, celebrating and honouring everything that is "Giagia & Pappou" at our annual Grandparents Day Concert, 2016!!!

I'm so proud of all our students and their families, especially those who attended the event, performed brilliantly in front of a 1,000+ audience, and proudly showcased traditional dances and customs from across Greece.

To date, it's been 6 months’ worth of non-stop rehearsals just to choreograph and coordinate the first 4 minutes, of what will become another marathon routine...

A sheer work of artistry, meticulously choreographed by Alkis himself, which merges traditional Greek folk dances, with contemporary choreography, modern style costumes, and the latest upbeat Greek music and rhythms… an energetic fusion of laika, Pontian, Cretan, island and mainland regional dances.

Tonight we spent 2 whole hours on a 10-second segment of the most famous Cretan dance of all, Pentozali!

Judging by our seniors' high kick 'psalides', they seem to have infused martial arts into the equation!!!
