Considering Morgoth’s devastation was so much to the point where the world of Arda was reshaped multiple times goes to show how much of a gap there is between them.

It depends at what point Sauron and Morgoth are compared at. Tolkien wrote that Sauron at the end of The Second Age was greater than Morgoth at the end of The First Age. That is because Morgoth expended a lot of his power in the world and his servants. But Morgoth at his peak would have wiped Sauron out, even with the one ring.

Dude you got this way wrong... Sauron wouldnt get a single point on Morgoth. Sauron was running around messing with humans, dwarfs, a few elves, and 1 myair (Gandalf). Morgoth fought all the most power elves of the 1st age AND all the other Gods! Each one of those Gods would have wiped the floor with Sauron.

Sauron is Morgoth's servant. In the LOTR books, they show Morgoth as the head of evil, the greatest of evil. Therefore it cannot be compared.

Morgoth was light years more powerful than Sauron in almost every way. However Morgoth also had to disperse much of his power to create all the evil beings and weapons that serve him whereas Sauron did not have to sacrifice any of his power. It’s therefore not too crazy to assume that Sauron would be able to challenge Morgoth in some capacity.
