Editors Oddity - Identity Crisis

The life of a gigging musician can be frought with stress. At any given moment you may be tired, hungry, ill or just really missing your family. None of this, however, must be allowed to get in the way of the performance, night after night. If managed well, it can be kept under control. Stay out on the road for too long, though, and you can actually lose a sense of your own identity, which is a far more serious prospect.

As an example, here's some footage featuring two gentlemen from popular Belgian pop group Editors. They were given a simple task; do an ident for Kink radio's Afterparty show. It seems like an unproblematic proposal, except that they had to do one crucial thing; introduce themselves.

In a regular situation this would be easy, yet you can see the obvious confusion in their faces as they struggle to remember who they are. These are the unseen consequences that all your favourite touring musicians have to bear. Ed Sheeran believes he's Nick Cave some times, Mariah Carey is occasionally convinced that she is Barry White while Elliott and Russell are just as baffled at their own personas. Neither man possesses the vocal range to be Tom Smith, and none have the powerful beard game required to be Justin Lockey. They are them...whoever they are.

The only upside to all of this is that they appear happy in their obvious delusions. So sad.
