Dig into the complicated history of divorce— from the earliest known divorce laws in ancient Mesopotamia to modern day.

--

Formally or informally, human societies across place and time have made rules to bind and dissolve couples. The stakes of who can obtain a divorce, and why, have always been high. Divorce is a battlefield for some of society’s most urgent issues, including the roles of church and state, individual rights, and women’s rights. Rod Phillips digs into the complicated history of divorce.

As a divorce attorney, the first thing I ask all my clients is, "Do they squeeze the toothpaste in the middle?" It helps add criminal charges to the dispute.

Props to people who can get divorced and still remain civil, if not friendly, afterwards 👍

Divorces are sad but they NEED to exist. People being stuck together with people they're no longer happy with has to be really miserable for every party involved

Having your parents divorce is rough but sometimes very necessary. I was 11 when mine broke up and it was a mess at first with them arguing every time my dad came to pick up me and my siblings but things eventually got better. Now a decade later i can look back and see all of the positive things that came out of their separation.

Speaking from experience, divorce means the end of a bad relationship. My wicked stepfather treated me like burned dirt and the only thing that made him stop was when he was divorced and mom took me away from there. A ton of time away from those that punish you for nothing you are aware of is good for recovery.

I just wish my parents got it done faster so I wouldn't have to spend my childhood with the sound of them fighting in the backround.

Weird Fact: I live in a country where Divorce doesn't exist 🤦‍♀️ (The only country in the whole world)
Also another fact about my country:
-When you are cheating, you get public humiliation, and your family dishonors you (the last statement depends if they don't have very religious and also strict parents).
-Even if they are in a GF and BF relationship and one of them cheats people will doubt the cheater. They will avoid the cheater at all cause.
-If the marriage is dysfunctional they neither blame the husband or the wife but mostly side with the wife.
-Cheaters will be imprisoned

well there you have it folks

In the Philippines, there is no divorce law but there are annulment of marriage and legal separation laws that makes it harder for a couple to apply since it is more difficult and expensive...it doesn't make sense to me.
