The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom reviewed by Tom Marks on Nintendo Switch.

This is an unfathomable sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, somehow improving upon it in nearly every way – be that with simple quality-of-life improvements, a genuinely exciting story, or wildly creative new building mechanics that make you rethink what is possible. It both revamps old ground and introduces vast new areas with an alarming number of tasks to complete, mysteries to discover, and delightful distractions to keep you from ever reaching that place you naively thought you were headed. Nintendo has followed up a triumph with a triumph, expanding and evolving a world that already felt full beyond expectation and raising the bar ever higher into the clouds.

A game that is finished at launch is such a rare and beautiful thing in 2023.

Mario might always be the face of the franchise but Zelda will always be where Nintendo showcase their excellency.

Everyone always be shitting on Nintendo for full priced games, never sales, and console exclusivity… but they are the only people nowadays who released FINISHED products

Koroks getting mauled, barbequed, rocket'd, and more... is the definition of madness. Nintendo really did it.

Making one of the top games of all time look like a practice run means that something very, very special has been created.

It's a seamless transition to the underground, which is also the size of Hyrule's surface? That is just mind boggling how Nintendo pulled this off on the Switch. Absolutely jaw dropping.

I'm at 140 hours played, 60 shrines, less than a quarter of the chasim revealed, about 30-40% of the sky done and about 40% of the surface explored. This game is massive.

Was never in doubt. Botw is still a blast to play years later. Exploring the lands and fighting things and finding loot. This looks like an even better version of that formula

The end where he glued the poor korok to the rock and dropped him in the depths was hilarious

For those who don’t want to watch the video for fear of spoilers and wanting to keep themselves unaware, they gave it a 10

Seeing old monsters like the Gleeok, Gibdos and Like-Likes make a comeback puts a smile on my old heart.

8:14 this fight gave such apocalyptic vibes, familiar scenery almost having deja vu yet you have new monsters which were never there before, so cool

This is truly one of the best games I’ve ever played. The Switch is an anomaly of gaming. The weakest system power wise, the best games still seem to come from Nintendo. Amazing.

going through the tutorial for several hours without it even feeling like a tutorial, just to realize the game hasn't even started until you drop down to the surface 🔥

This looks incredible. I'm glad Nintendo didn't create a new Hyrule map just for the sake of it, there was so much potential with the BOTW Hyrule, and I'm actually looking forward to revisiting some of the same areas to see what's new/different. Adding sky islands and an entire underground world to boot... my goodness.

This is the rare kind of game in this day and age that encourages thinking and creativity.
Sad that most gaming has been reduced to mechanical tasks and reflexes.

42 years here, playing Zelda for the first time ever and I'm loving it. The only thing this game really bothers me, is the fact it's so addictive.

After 6 years, it's incredible that Nintendo have followed up one masterpiece with another. And one that makes the former look like a first draft. What a time to be a Zelda fan!
