An adaptation from DS version should be in the Mario 3D All-Star for switch..

NDS = Better 3D Models and More Details.
N64 = Better Textures and Sound Quality

You can argue about the quality of the textures, lighting, sound an about the colour palette. That's all personal preference. But the models and environmental details are clearly much more polished and better looking on the DS.

I actually played the DS version before the original N64!
TBH, I love both of them! Regardless of which game has better graphics or textures or whatever, they’re both pretty much the same game. However what I really like about the DS version is that it has more variety, more levels, and more to offer! Playing as Mario is fun and all, but having the option as playing as either Yoshi, Luigi, or Wario as well after you save/unlock them, and they all have their own unique abilities designed for certain purposes in the game, can’t go wrong with that!
While it is true that the DS version doesn’t have analog, but I didn’t mind the D-pad since I grew up with the DS. Besides if you play this game on the 3DS, problem solved via the 3DS’s analog...
If there’s 1 thing we can all agree on, is that this game needs to come out on Nintendo Switch!

The NDS version lacks texture filtering, but it looks better in the rest.

SM64: _Exists_
SM64 DS: _Better Graphichs_
Super Mario 3D All Stars: _It's just evolving... but backwards..._

They should've waited to make a 3DS remake than this game. Lack of analog was always a bother to me.

N64: Analog control.
NDS: *Everything else.*

I grew up with the DS version, but I can go play the 64 version and have just as much fun. I prefer the DS just for the extra content, but it's not a deal breaker at all.

Man I wish they could remake this exact game on the switch. It would be cool of they could get it to look as good as oddyssey.

The interesting thing is the Nintendo 64 version uses way more polys (especially in mario's model) than the Nintendo DS version but they're just made better and way more efficient so less is really more, the Nds version also does have higher quaity textures and it's really impressive that those more detailed textures actually work together and make mario look more detailed even tho he's really less detailed in a way

I would prefer a DS port on the switch with Mario Odyssey's camera controls but I honestly don't mind! As long as we get something in the end (love the video btw)

It would be nice if they gave us the ds version for the switch edition

They should have ported the DS version of Mario 64 to the 3D All Stars collection.

Besides the highly improved character models, I also think the textures look a lot better in the DS version. They have a clearer sense of direction, they look more cartoony and Mario-like making them fit a Mario game better, plus the palette of Bob-Omb Battlefield is much nicer to look at. Many of the original textures give a kinda "stock" feel. The only problem is that they lack bilinear filtering, but that's the DS hardware to blame and I don't think it looks bad. But if they had it, I'd consider the DS version's graphics better in almost every way.

Imagine if the version in 3D All-Stars had the analog control of the N64 version, the graphics of the render96 project, and the added content and level design of the DS version.
That would be amazing.

The lack of analogue control never once bothered me in SM64DS, since it really reminded me of playing Spyro with the original PS1 controllers, where it simulates the feel of full 360 degree movement with only 4 directions.

Being an early 2000s kid, I actually grew up with both. My first console and game was a N64 with SM64 on it. Then I got a DS, and SM64DS. While I do prefer the N64 version, the DS version had amazing qualities and it allowed me to play my favourite game ever on the go. The main issue is I often mixed up what belonged to any of the versions, like I'd often forget Wario isn't in the original one!
