Same-sex marriage just became legal last year in my country. Hope Latvia will also approve that in the future. By the way, congratulations again :)))

It's quite amazing how Latvia managed to keep the count so low. It was partly luck, I guess, not some special measures :)

Compare with a neighbouring country - Lithuania.

The quarantine restrictions were much less strict in Latvia than they were in Lithuania.
Almost nobody wears masks here (even in supermarkets), many bars and non-grocery stores, barber shops etc. remained open all the time.
In Lithuania all these places were closed, and masks still are mandatory.
Last week Lithuania released some of the conditions, and it's still more strict there!

Also, Lithuania started the quarantine a bit earlier than Latvia and having fewer cases than Latvia. But during the quarantine, the number of cases in Lithuania kept rising and surpassed Latvia by a lot...

In Estonia, same-sex marriage is also illegal unless, you married in some other country (???) but, same-sex relationships are recognized and discrimination against LGBT is punishable. though haven't seen much like a petition to legalize same-sex marriage by people here, there's still some inhospitality towards them i think.

about the pandemic, i think i recently saw like headlines such as "6 lessons from Estonia's Coronavirus Crisis Response" so i think Estonia and Latvia are on the same boat which is pretty nice :D our government decided to lift the restrictions on moving around the habited islands (Saaremaa, Hiiumaa, Ruhnu, Kihnu, Muhu, etc.) in mid-May.

also happy independence restoration day soon! thats quite cool that Latvia is doing online cinema of old latvian films, animations and such :)

Just started watching and have learned a lot and had my memory jogged even more. My last daily contact with my Latvian speaking family was 1961. Keep up the good work. Love the humor!

Love it! Thank you/paldies! The Latvian alphabet was made by people who participated. I also submitted my answers, so looking forward to see if any words I suggested will be included! :) Also something you might want to mention is that Tavaklase.lv now offers Liv language classes to all pupils until 29th May! Best wishes from Birmingham 🇬🇧 🇱🇻 🙌

Could you recommend Latvian movies to watch and learn the language?

I think it is important for all people to enjoy the same rights and furfill their dreams and live a happy life.
Though I find it problematic when potentiall benefits aimed to support familys are bound to being married.
Maybe this is an opportunity to make benefits dependable on childs and not marriage in the first place or an combination out of those.
Including lower tax rate and so on.
So many people decide not to get married in todays age and they do not recieve those benefits to the full extend like married couples do.
As for the churches they can continue their stance on marriage and just don't consider same-sex marriage as proper marriage.
This will be their own rightfull opinion as churches, aswell as individual persons don't have to aknowledge them. As always one can't force people to agree with that.
In the end noone looses face, everyone profits (beside childless married couples) and noone gets a freebeer.

Maybe its a good topic to dig into the latvian social security system and child benefits.
All my experience comes from germany, maybe Latvia is already implementing better systems to make tose benefits more effective.

I don't think people should get married or stay married if it's not a gay marriage.

I am half Latvian and I REALLY hope we'll get to same sex marriage.
At least we should be faster than Estonia😂, so they aren't always the first ones doing good things 🙄
