One very notable thing that I almost never hear talked about is the fact that REDACTED is behind the dog check- along with the UNUSED ROOMS. Entry #17 (and also the bug catching spot I believe) is NOT behind dog check- easily accessible through simple save editing. To get past dog check requires modifying the game itself, not just the save data. There is no reason for REDACTED to be gaster.

Issue with the redacted sprite is that it's found alongside fully broken code via the stable and the room itself is locked behind dogcheck, which makes Redacted even more suspicious than the mysteryman sprite. The mysteryman sprite is found with FUN 66, which gaster is associated with

Honestly I don’t even know what’s gonna happen if it isn’t. The fandom is so sure about mystery man being Gaster that if it wasn’t it might have cataclysmic consequences. I mean, we already kinda saw this with the whole “Mike vs. Tenna” thing

I feel like redacted was an early version of the mystery man room and also the piece that the gaster follower is holding is one of gasters “shattered” pieces. Since entry 17 and this room are both rooms that aren’t blocked by the game makes it really seem like gaster is the mystery man. And also if Toby was planning on gaster being the mystery man, he wouldn’t just call it gaster because then that would ruin the mystery.

Considering Mysteryman's fade sound effect is just gaster's theme slowed, it's probably some part of gaster.
Also I doubt that this will be his sprite in Deltarune. It's probably just a mock version or something similar, no way that Deltarune Gaster will be like that.

There is that case with the tarot card that was immediately changed with Gerson (I think) before release. I know they had to go through toby before release and yada yada but honestly even if not confirmed I’ll take it as face value as canon. It’s a pretty cool design that confirms and adds a bit of lore based on design you should go check it out if you haven’t already

My theory: mysteryman is what Gaster looked like before he fell into the core, while [REDACTED] is what he looked like after he fell.

I think the mystery man sprite is gaster because he shows up at FUN lvl 66 and the number 6 is associated with gaster ALOT like the textdata for the gaster room is literally textdata 666 and gasters stats are 666 so i think that implies mostly that mysteryman sprite is gaster

TheSoph™ explains so much good the "Redacted event".

The Redacted event was probably an test for some thing related to Napstablook or an unused version of Gaster event.

First, unlike "gaster room" (and probably entry 17), the redacted room, like another unused stages, is protected by the dogcheck event (like another unused stages).

Another thing is that Redacted sprite don't looks like so much like a thing that was meant to be in-game. All the cryptic characters (Mysteryman/Gaster, Gaster Followers, Goners) they have detailed sprites, but redacted? It's just something that got his sprite erased with a white pencil.

The reason that you enter in sound test room after exit from redacted's room is because the order of the rooms in game files. The game use different hitboxes to warp between rooms. The Redacted room's Hitbox leads you two rooms above (that is the sound test room. it's just the code working normally, but in wrong place).

The third reason, is that, like Napstablook, redacted have the same fade effect. (Gaster also have, but he only does it when the player interacts with him).

The Stable room, following some coordinates that, as i said before, TheSoph™ can explain better, should be localized in Snail race room. And if i remember, Toby Fox planned to Napstablook have a family.

Then what is redacted? Just an unused character (unlike Gaster, that you can acess via FUN value. and entry 17, that can be accessed just by changing the room number. Unused rooms got a dogcheck to avoid people to know about these things. But with Mysteryman is different, because looks like Toby really wanted to we know about him.
