Anita Baker came to Baltimore md, apr 1987 on her rapture tour at the Lyric theatre. Me my girlfriend and 3 other couples bought tickets to see her. It was a magnificent show. 8 of us 4 couples about 5 rows back. I was 27, we all were in our late 20's . after the show we went to a club in east Baltimore called 32nd street plaza. If you are from those days you know what I'm talking about. being in your 20s in the 1980s couldn't get any better than that, I bought all the tickets on my credit card the day they went on sale. they were sold out in about an hour. on the day of the show I surprised everybody by renting a limo with Champaine, the whole kit and Kaboodle . That was one of the best days of my life. And I thank the Most High for allowing me to enjoy it.

She is an American singer-songwriter known for her soulful ballads, particularly from the height of the Quiet Storm period in the 1980s. Starting her career in the late 1970s with the funk band Chapter 8, Baker released her first solo album, The Songstress, in 1983. In 1986, she rose to fame following the release of her Platinum-selling second album, Rapture, which included the Grammy-winning single "Sweet Love". As of 2017, Baker has won eight Grammy Awards and has four Platinum albums, along with two Gold albums. Baker is a contralto with a wide range of octaves. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on January 26, 1958

I remember this like it was yesterday. Guest artists would normally perform 2 songs. Anita performed multiple songs. This was not common on Soul we were here for it.

Baker teamed with former Chapter 8 bandmate Michael Powell for her wonderful Elektra debut, Rapture, released on March 20, 1986. It was an instant classic that virtually defined adult soul for the next decade and thrust Baker to the forefront of popular music. The first single, "Watch Your Step, " was a moderate Soul hit, but it was the catchy follow up ballad, "Sweet Love, " that brought across-the-board attention to the album and resulted in Baker winning 1986 Grammy Awards for best R&B Female Vocalist and best R&B Song. A legendary career was cemented with Rapture. The album still sounds great all these years later and Anita Baker remains a part of our lives as an all-time singer supreme.
