Dr Katja Heubel, leader of the working group coastal ecology at the Research and Technology Centre West Coast at #KielUniversity, explains one of her newer research areas on the effect of underwater noise on marine ecosystems. Within the JPI Oceans project ORCHESTRA, she and collaborators focus on the effect of anthropogenic underwater noise on zooplankton in the Wadden Sea coast of the federal state Schleswig-Holstein. She also highlights the importance of transdisciplinary research with stakeholders such as local fishermen or state authorities as well as the collaboration within the framework of the SEA-EU Alliance, specificially within the reSEArch-EU project.
