On a warm spring day in 1924, house maid and foundling Jane Fairchild (Odessa Young) finds herself alone on Mother’s Day. Her employers, Mr. and Mrs. Niven (Colin Firth and Olivia Colman), are out and she has the rare chance to spend quality time with her secret lover. Paul (Josh O’Connor) is the boy from the manor house nearby, Jane’s long-term love despite the fact that he’s engaged to be married to another woman, a childhood friend and daughter of his parents’ friends. But events that neither can foresee will change the course of Jane’s life forever.

I watched this today and I can't stop thinking about it. The subtle touches such as Jane hearing the telephone ring twice, a symbolism for the passing of a loved one. The intimate details revealed after she's grief-stricken in the privacy of her servant quarters. It's slow and breathtaking.

I saw this movie a week ago, and in my opinion it is extremely good. The film makers have paid a lot of attention to detail. Some of that detail creates historical authenticity; other detail serves to reinforce themes or to develop the plot.
The only actors I'd seen before were Colin Firth and Glenda Jackson. They were excellent, especially Colin Firth. The ones I didn't know turned in first class work as well.
I say go see this one if you can.

Evry movie with affair and cheating, is well rated, wines prises….ect and is made as a romantic love story between tow unfortunate adult whom love each other but they can’t marry each other because they can’t leave the other, im just can’t understand how some or probably must of society is accepting such a life style ? What did brig society to this malfunctioning mind set ?! accepting this things as a normal day to day style of life, is a mental illness.

Period after the first world war well represented, such loss and expectations on those who survived. Mainly revolved around a day of lovemaking and nudity, a very slow paced thoughtful movie, well acted, pleasant score and cinematography... could probably have made more of the emotions and renowned actors.

Seeing Josh O'Connor is a delight to me. Everytime! However the film is not at his level or the other actors and actresses. There are good things though. The landscape, the house...
