Uber in Athens? Not With These Drivers!

Nikoleta is one of the 14000 taxis in Athens, Greece. She comes from a family of taxi drivers and knows what the business is all about. Greece gave the world philosophy and Nikoleta tells more about the rich culture found in Athens and why it's easy to be a philosopher once you're there. Greece is also not shy when it comes to protests, the country has seen a lot over the last 10 years and the taxi drivers are no different. They successfully drove Uber out of Greece as they saw the detrimental damage the tech app was causing to their livelihoods. And to make sure the drivers are heard by the politicians and people, they created their own radio show, to keep up the fight for all the drivers in Greece.

Kalisfera, my family and I just arrived back in California yesterday after 3 glorious weeks in the EU but mostly Greece we took a Taxi at 3am before the protest began and I want to say every single person we had conversations with in Greece were very professional, friendly and they added an extra incentive for us to return to Greece. I hope these issues get resolved as soon as possible because yes you have your reasons, but the tourist also find themselves stranded in a continent or country that the don't know. For everyone reading my email you have to put a visit to this beautiful and historic country on your bucket list you will not regret it. Good luck and parakalo efharisto.

There is nothing wrong with apps like Uber. It is the business model that is flawed!

Unfortunately, the 90% taxi drivers that scam tourists gives your industry a bad name. Therefore, Uber etc will thrive. There is about only 10% of good taxi drivers only.

I’m in Athens right now and I have recently taken a 10 minutes taxi drive due to the extreme heat at 14:00 to my Airbnb. The taxi that has driven me tried to scam me and my partner by charging us double the price the taximeter said (20€ instead of 9, 50€ that originally costed) and only accepting cash (not declaring the ride). Scammers are everywhere and I’m taking Uber from now on, it has fixed price ranges and you aren’t economically abused as a tourist!

Well take care Every kind of people ion athens, taxi drivers-reasurants-kiosk owners everything most of times are overpriced and they will try to stole as many they can. Example, kiosks around acropolis they dont sell water on ttheir fridges to force you something more expensive liek orange juices or energy drinks. iTS NOT ONLY TAXI DRIVERS. Especially for tourists yes you visit an amaazing country with amazing beautys but 80% of greek people they will try to stole you. Its the DNA. (Balklans you know)
