Reducing government expenditure by $2T reduces GDP by more than $2T, ie the amount of government expenditure plus a multiplier effect.
And consumption falls as unemployment increases…. It’s enough to induce a significant recession on its own.
Take another 1m workers out of the economy: tax falls, consumption falls and labour costs rise.
Add in 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico. Prices go up by a lot.
Oh, and China has stopped exporting rare metals needed for the USA’s high end products including processors and missiles.
It’s actually not looking good for Trumpian economics. Atlas will Shrug.

All the talk is about Trump's draconian tariffs, but European policymakers are not going to be far behind in their efforts to keep their domestic auto industry alive.

If the U.S. decides to isolate itself from the rest of the world, that’s fine. Many of us have been waiting for our countries to stop worshipping at the altar of American finance. If, instead, Americans would just take a well deserved pride in all that they’ve accomplished with some hubris, and quit criticising the behaviour of other countries, the world would be a much better place.
