Taken from 'Groove Curse' EP released 15th August 2014 via Soul Has No Tempo.

Soul Has No Tempo present Groove Curse, Jordan Rakei's long-awaited follow up to highly-acclaimed debut EP Franklin’s Room, his modern take on reggae-infused soul music. Groove Curse takes an evolved turn, with a sound Rakei describes as “raw, vocal-driven, groove”. With the first single off the EP, Street Light featuring Berklee College of Music Alumni, Gwen Bunn (vocalist and producer of Schoolboy Q’s Collard Greens feat. Kendrick Lamar), the release celebrates the skills of upcoming young musicians who are writing, self-producing and taking full advantage of their vocal and multi-instrumentalist talents.

Let it groove to the soul.
Binded by specifics in the goal.
Finding which the illest, who knows?
Play the beat skanking at the show.
(Let the bassline fly)
Frequency emotion through the sky.
Storms of melodies in the eye.
Havoc on the speakers all night.
(So mumble to the birds)
Everybody's got the groove curse.

This song concept reminds me of Hi-Tek - Get Ta Steppin' Feat. Mos Def. Both dope tracks.

She told me add the bassline
And everything will be fine
She told me add the sound of the drums, drums
To set the moon and foundation
She told me add the bassline
And everything will be fine
She told me add the sound of the drums
To set the moon and foundation

Sweet sounds of July
Sweeter than a blackberry pie
Sweeter than the breeze of the night
The gat plays, hit the rewind
OH here’s the rhodes
Minor 9 insatiable
Sharp 11 losing control
Now here’s the vocal
Baby let it take over
Ridiculous flow
Meticulous glow
And limitless growth

[Hook:]
I got the bassline
I got the drumming drums
And I don’t waste time
I’m singing them songs
I got the bassline
I got the drumming drums
And I don’t waste time
I’m singing them songs
She told me add the bassline
And everything will be fine
She told me add the sound of the drums
To set the moon and foundation

Let it groove to the soul
Blind it with specifics in the goals
Find out which is illest, who knows?
Play the beats ganking at the shows
Let the bassline fly
Frequency emotion through the skies
Storms of melodies in the eye
Have the speakers going on all night
Sun room to the burst
Everybody’s got the groove curse
Everybody’s got the groove curse
Everybody’s got the groove curse
