Science and the Scientific Method (2.30 - 3.15 pm)
Our knowledge structures are undergoing dramatic changes as the world further progresses into the Information Age. To not drown in a rising sea of information, knowledge across a wide range of methods and disciplines becomes increasingly important. In this Masterclass, we will discuss the fundamental principles behind scientific methods in different fields. We will use examples and illustrations to connect different methods to provide a science-based response to some of the planet’s biggest challenges.

Speaker: Dr Sorain Ramchunder
Dr Sorain Ramchunder is a freshwater ecohydrologist whose research crosses several fields including aquatic ecology, hydrology, hydrochemistry and geomorphology. Although trained as a freshwater ecologist, his research focus is broader in that he is concerned with applying evidence-based science to address practical problems and to develop sound policies related to management and protection of natural systems.
