HMD Skyline Review | Lumia reborn as Android

This is my review of recently released HMD Skyline smartphone

Things i didnt mention in the video, im gonna say here
First of all bit on the speakers, now in the video it does not translate fully compared to live listening and in my opinion , speakers here are loud but thats about only good thing about them, otherwise they sound very average

Automatic brightness keeps phone always too dim and only when there is sunlight it really ramps up, otherwise i feel like its always too low even when there is decent amount of light. Something very fixable with software update tho

Haptics & Vibration does not feel very good, it feels too strong and lacks fine feel that good haptics have . Also vibration is very loud, you can hear vibration of message for example across the room.. now positive thing is you definetly feel it but its bit loud to my liking

*This one i actually forgot to add in video* WHOOPS, Sunlight visibility of the screen? Actually even in very sunny environment you can easily make out everything on screen buuut it does not compete with top of the line phones here ( 1000nit advertised peak brightness )

Batterylife so far for me have been good, ofcourse depends how i use the device but ive been getting around 6-7h SOT in normal day to day use.

Overall i do like the Skyline but just cant help but to think 499$ / € starting price is bit too high for what you get. 399 would ideal starting price for my money. I would really like to compare this to Nord 4 and other similar priced devices if i get the opportunity

One thing I really appreciate is MicroSD support here , paired with good fast MSD card you can have plenty extra space for photos and video for cheap! I already had Samsung 512gb card so happy days

I cant believe i forgot to include how PHONE CALLS are 😁 zero issues during my use with phonecalls. My biggest gripe in everyday use is those "cheap" feeling haptics and vibration, almost makes me want to turn it off completely and strenght of it can not be adjusted at the time of this comment. Also auto brightness always seems to adjust brighntess too low indoor atleast

There was an update for the Skyline that began rolling out on 21st August which introduced 4K recording for the selfie camera, and you can now shoot in 4K 30fps with stabilisation across all of the rear cameras.

I liked all the photos that Skyline took. Video looked good too but once again HMD messed up the audio and it didn't sound like rain at all as it did so well on Pixel, maybe a software update can fix the audio? Anyway, I was surprised how well its cameras performed, close to a tie in my opinion. Pink colour on box and hypeting that pink all the time is weird marketing because I'm absolutely sure this is a phone prominently for male audience and I wouldn't buy a pink phone and I don't buy black phones either. On cheap Pulse phones HMD had chosen to put great looking colours but not on their most expensive phone which is just weird. And HMD should definitely make a public announcement, saying that "we're sorry, we made a mistake and we're now making things right and are now giving Skyline 3+4 years of updates also to those who already bought it". HMD Pulse models are very cheap at 90-160 Euros and they get the same 2+3 years as this 400-600 € Skyline that's almost unbelievable and it makes no sense at all. A close to flagship priced HMD phone like Skyline deserves much better and it shouldn't be killed at launch with such a terrible decision. An easy repairable phone gets just 2+3 years of updates is almost an insult to the whole idea of keeping this phone for many years. But I do like Skyline much, it's just that like this it's kind of an unnecessarily flawed phone and sorry HMD but I don't consider buying one because of those mistakes I mentioned. In standard mode, the 4X zoom is just cropped from primary sensor. Not using telephoto. Only pro mode allows 4X zoom using telephoto.
