the Clio 220 Trophy is by 0.7 seconds a lap quicker here at Llandow than the Skyline R34. Wow!! You can see how quick the superminis became. Steve tested it a few weeks ago. I love the R34, but the Clio became a real giant killer :) I'm soo glad I ordered just right on time :)

It's not really 16 years of progress. The R34 only had 276bhp because of a gentleman's
agreement amongst the Japanese car makers not to produce anything higher. I bet if that R34 had the power it deserves then it would have been a whole closer.

What I've noticed over the years is the way the vehicle feels & how engaging it is to drive. The modern cars with modern technology will usually always win but they can sometimes feel disconnected & clinical. The raw driving experience of the older vehicles is more exciting.
In bike terms a screaming two stroke bike in which you are using 100% of the power, feels more exciting than my 1200cc bandit in which is smooth & refined but lacks the two stroke oil petrol mix smell combined with a screaming engine.

Run an R34 with the same power level as the R35. That would be interesting.

I bought a mint low miles stock R34 a couple of weeks back.
The money I paid for it could've bought me an R35 and a new kitchen. I see the value of nice R34's only going up though.

So the mighty R34 is slower than the 220hp FWD hatchbacks like the Clio RS and 208 GTI? Even more importantly, the R35 is slower than the Civic Type R?

Look at that R34, it's so much more good looking than the new one, that's the kind of car I would pick.

so, 15 years of development allows you to arrive 4 seconds faster if you happen to be in a race then I guess that's quite significant anywhere else however it's pretty irrelevant.

And yet of the two I'd pick the R34 without even thinking about it. Nostalgia is a potent thing.

No one said anything about the power gap between those two.
I wonder with equal power R34 would be that slow? My bet is 1s gap and that comes from TC and gearbox.

Maybe if R35 wasn't covered in that dreadfull champagne color it would be even faster :) This color really doesn't suit it, it's very meh.
