Itachi loved his little brother he could not bear the thought of killing Him which is why Sasuke lived. He was protected by his older brother once again when Itachi let his little brother kill him it was Itachi pushing his brother to use mangekyo sharingan so that when he died because inevitably he was going to die anyway and he wanted to save his brother from himself. So he gave him his eyes and if people forget he also imbedded that crow within Naruto as well because the only other person that cared about Sasuke as much as Itachi was Naruto.
