This song sounds weirdly good in military cadence.

Probably shouldn't have watched this movie before I enlisted in the Army in 1983. It took a couple of months but I was eventually permitted to call the cadence during a morning PT run. I broke into doo-wah Diddy only to discover while the platoon was willing, at least 70% were completely tone deaf. Well, I tried.

Loved this movie when it came out. Little did I know in 1992 I would be there doing my basic.
The coolest thing was one morning on a run there was at least 5 Companys of us singing this together as it echoed though the base.

I like how the drill seargant doesn't even stop them singing, they just proceed as normal.

Camp Pendleton, 1983 as a young Marine Lance Corporal in the field, I was tasked with marching the platoon out of the boonies and back to the bivouac area. As we came into view off the tents, I struck up this song. The laughter was overwhelming from the guys in the bivouac area. The Marines I was marching, begged me to keep it going as I had them instep singing this song.

RIP Harold Ramis - my father was a WWII veteran and this was one of his all-time favorite movies!

There’s just something so genuine and wholesome about soldiers bopping a song while marching to the beat. :)

🇺🇲 For those of you who ever served - you all know we marched with some wicked cadence singers back in the day. 😌 It STILL touches the heart. 💗 Thank you for your service. 🤝

You know it's a great movie when a classic song reminds you of it.

Notice...they are ALL on their right foot when he calls "left". Perfectly out of step...the entire unit.

There she was, just a-walkin' down the street
Singin' do wah diddy diddy, dum diddy do
Poppin' her fingers and shufflin' her feet
Singin' do wah diddy diddy, dum diddy do
She looked good (she looked good)
She looked fine (she looked fine)
She looked good, she looked fine
And I nearly lost my mind

I did my basic training at Ft Knox where this was filmed, just a few years later. The only time we were permitted to sing this cadence was after graduation when we were marching back to the barracks
