In Georgia, we cannot own native species without a permit. Eastern Hognoses, Corn snakes, Pine snakes, certain King snakes and a number of others are off-limits. Unless they are venomous. I can keep a Diamond Back Rattler or a Copper Head. Makes perfect sense.

My wife and I have been back and forth on getting a hognose. We are leaning that way just trying to get all the information I can. I'm addicted to researching things before I get them....

You should have mentioned there are ZERO recorded deaths/serious reactions to a Hognose bite. Great video :) I love them because they are a little sassy until you pick them up and then they are sweethearts.

Plissken mistook my finger for food during the second to last feeding. It was the slowest snake bite attempt ever.

Honestly, I find their hissing and bluff strikes adorable. Like a little hissing kitten!

I'm watching this as my hognose is pretending she doesn't want to eat her mouse.

I think my hoggie didn't get the terrestrial memo. He is in a bioactive vivo and has to be as high as possible and always climbing. Also refuses to eat unless hes up in his log

I remember finding out they love boiled egg, (some of them) that trick really helped us when they went on hunger strike.
Also done be afraid of putting them on loose substrate!

Easterns/Westerns(Plains) don't bite often. Tricolor and madagascan will jump out of the enclosure trying to eat you (sometimes).

Fun side note on hognoses: In North America there are *technically* subspecies but none of them are officially recognized. The Mexican Hognose (Heterodon Kennerlyi/Heterodon Nasicus Kennerlyi) has a different distribution, different scale count, and completely different adult size - but they still count as "plains hognose snakes" (heterodon nasicus) when it comes to the laws in most US states. Kind of a bummer but in all fairness it is extraordinarily difficult to tell Mexican Hognose from Plains Hognose if they were two snakes you've never seen before, had no idea what the age was, and were side-by-side.

Iowa here. No hognose without a permit.
I'm a science teacher so I may be able to make this happen if I can relate it to my curriculum. UGH! The temptation! :P
