In 2016, Starmus had the great honor to devote a full edition of the festival to the life and legacy of Stephen Hawking. Starmus III, held in the Canary Islands in 2016, was a full week tribute to Hawking from some of the most brilliant hearts and minds in music and science.

During the event, Stephen received a heartwarming surprise by two rock legends: a video message from Bono and Edge full of love and admiration for the physicist.

The legendary musicians sent recited a fragment of the poem “Poetry” by Pablo Neruda, followed by a live performance of the song Your Blue Room, a song by the band that the two artists formed alongside visionary producer Brian Eno in their experimental musical experience in the late nineties, under the monicker Passengers.

Suddenly I saw
the heavens
unfastened
and open,
planets,
palpitating plantations,
shadow perforated,
riddled
with arrows, fire and flowers,
the winding night, the universe"
