Sander Berge Is A Claret! | FIRST INTERVIEW

Burnley Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Norwegian international Sander Berge from Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee.

The central midfielder has penned a four-year contract at Turf Moor and becomes Vincent Kompany’s eighth new summer signing.

After joining the Clarets, Berge said: “I have heard a lot of good things about the Club and seeing the success from outside last season, there’s a great project building here.

“It’s a great environment full of young talented players from all around the world, so I just think it’s the perfect fit for me.

“The club has high ambitions, making several signings and it all just fits into what I’m looking for.”

Born in Baerum, Berge began his career in Norway at Asker SK playing in the third and second tiers before earning a move to top-flight side Valerenga in 2015.

The 25-year-old spent two seasons with Oslo based outfit before a switch to the Belgian Pro League in 2017 to Genk. The towering midfielder played 113 matches for Genk and lifted the Belgian Super Cup in 2019 which then saw Berge make the move to England and the Blades in January 2020.

Berge racked up 109 appearances for United over four seasons since joining, including two campaigns in the Premier League and 15 goals during his time at Bramall Lane.

Internationally, Berge made his senior Norway debut in 2017 against Northern Ireland and now has 36 caps after featuring from U15-U21 level.

To the Burnley fans having watched Sander for the last four seasons.
He comes across as an intelligent lad and it shows on the pitch he has a very good footballing brain.
For such a big lad he glides across the pitch.
When he's running with the ball he's very difficult to dispossess and he's faster than you'd think for someone so big.
He's also good at passing and keeping it simple .

Negatives he can't tackle or head the ball for toffee so he's no defensive midfielder.
He doesn't like to get stuck in and has a tendancy to hide if the opposition are too aggressive or like to press.
His injury record isn't the greatest either.

Am I gutted he's gone that depends on who we replace him with.
He was an ok signing but no world beater for the big money we paid for him.
But when he was fit he did improve the team.
So good luck to the lad no hard feelings from me and thanks for the last four years Sander.

In the interview, Sander seems so much more mature and thoughtful than he did a few years ago. He has been playing somewhat up and down. But his last 6 games of last season were fantastic. It seems that his shyness is gone. I think he will have a great time in Burnley.

I still find Burnley a strange choice considering there have been significant interest and offers from other teams like AC Milan. However, I think he'll thrive in a attacking role as at Sheffield United he had some quite undesirable defensive duties.

Probably set to be the most influential signing of the summer. We need a physical presence in the middle of the park, and a player with an eye for a pass there too. He ticks both boxes...

From a Blade - Good luck playing sideways and him vanishing for long periods of the game. He can't tackle and won't challenge for a header, despite his height. Could have been such a player for us but was a square peg in a triangular hole.
