The main edge I believe is that it’s based on a true story, rather than adapting a video game plot. It allows the film to be framed completely differently, while maintaining the trademark name of the franchise.

THANK YOU for recognising gran turismo's brilliance :) i've never played the games but this movie means so much to me and has SO much to say about elitism, mentorship, the limits of human ambition, and the joy and freedom of driving/cars. everything you said about the crash scene was spot on, too. i can't get enough of this movie.

I grew up playing the original Gran Turismo on the PS1. I got GT3 and a PS2 for my 10th birthday. I have a lot of good memories of this series.

Fast forward to today, I play GT7 with the PSVR2 and the steering wheel setup. Never would have imagined we would get here in terms of immersion and realism

Niel Blomkamp has always been a good director but i feel ever since the Aliens film he was rumored to work on fell through his career hasn't been the same. With GT he is back in form. Despite a less than stellar screenplay his ability to make it work is commendable & the way he makes you feel like you are in these 250mph cars was breathtaking.

I've always been a nervous driver, but I got a racing wheel (G27 I think it was called) almost a decade ago on my PS3, got pretty decent racing manual, enough for me to be comfortable driving automatic. Definitely one of the most rewarding feelings I've ever experienced playing games, really helped my confidence.

I was laughed at when I went to racing school at VIR when I said I had racing experience since GT2. And then proceeded to not only race in the rain there, but do extremely well. The stigma about sim racers is still around though.

People have been sitting on Blomkamp while he worked on the newest film tech and created some of his own and it all lead to this. What an extraordinary film.This kind of product makes Ridley Scott look like a fool for snatching Alien back to repeat himself. Also, David Harbour is our most precious natural resource and needs to be protected at all costs.
