so for #1 ideally for the girl yes. But in Bachata that get kinda tricky. Especially if guys try to dance sensual bachata.

#1 is very subjective in dances like SB or Zouk where being close is more normal. The thing to do there for the lead is to invite the follow into their space and let the follow decide how close they want to be. Usually they will do something like put a hand on your shoulder or set their frame to indicate the distance they want.

#3 is also subjective in dances like Zouk and Kizomba where dancing for multiple songs is the norm. What I usually do is let my follow decide when she wants the dance to be over and only ask once per night unless she has expressed to me she wants more.

I’ve just taken up bachata and trying to observe the etiquette of social dancing but you’ve explained clearly and simply. I’ve started some classes but I notice there’s a difference between lessons and social.any recommendations for social dancing for a learner? I'm glad you address guys getting too close you're so far the only ones. Here's my experience:

I love ballroom dancing and I bring my own partner my girl friend. Now it seems, its our responsibility that all single guys are entitled to multiple dances with my girl. This one night a particular guy during a bachata dance decided it was appropriate to act most inappropriately with my girlfriend, (it looked like he was trying to start a family) numerous times and I was deeply grieved and offended. later I was informed that all ballroom dancers are desensitized (like a frog in a pan of water their conscience has been boiled to death) and thats no big deal. Well it is to me, and since my partner lacks the temerity to tap a guy on the arm for fear she may offend the precious dance ediquitte which is worshipped by all, and tell him to act appropriately or simply push him away when dancing that way with someonelses girl, or better yet walk off the dance floor, she and I are will no longer switching partners. Etiquette shmetiquitte... in simpler terms it seems appropriate behavior is only one sided and this needs to be addressed, because in today sexually charged society it's deparately needed!

Anybody notice that the guy kinda stops dancing salsa and just does spins? Well, just my observation. I am learning salsa but I still wanna move while leading spins. Mucho salsa ;)

#1 Rule for making videos about rules for social dancing: Know how to make a good mix before you blow out the ear drums of the listener. Acoustics matter.

#1 - In general yes, but sometimes you gotta dance that close for a proper lead when dancing kizomba or sensual bachata. Do leave room for the girl to breathe and by all means no poking! Also girls shouldn’t send signals to guys that they want to go beyond dancing if all they want to do is dance.

#2 - Yeah this is gross and is one of the main reasons why I don’t dance a whole lot of salsa or dress up in super nice clothes at socials. It’s especially bad here at socials in Florida.

#3 - This is typical among guys who want to hook up with said girl for the night. Obviously doesn’t go well most of the time. However for me there is that one girl who I enjoyed dancing with so much in a night that I have to dance with her again later, but at crowded socials especially I’ll dance with said girls 3 times max.

4) Yeah - don’t do this at socials period.
