Silent Night during the Pandemic – arr. Richard Cooke

A beautiful arrangement of the Christmas carol Stille Nacht (Silent Night) by Royal Choral Society Music Director Richard Cooke, premiered by the choir at the Royal Albert Hall on 9th December 2020 in their socially distanced Christmas concert .

This concert was the first event to allow an audience into the Hall since it closed its doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic on 17 March 2020.

The choir was formed in 1872 from the singers who sang at the opening of the Royal Albert Hall in 1871. For this concert, the choir of 150 had to reduce to 48 to meet Covid guidelines.

I have been going to this concert since I was in my teens. I was there that night - very sad but very moving. Just been to the 2023 concert last Monday. Superb!
