Banana plants are susceptible to damage from very windy weather because they have beautiful large leaves. The large leaves of banana plants act like sails in windy weather, catching the wind and swaying back and forth. Luckily, many hardy banana plants originate from high altitude habitats where they have evolved in cool exposed conditions. They have adapted features to help survive windy weather and this video we talk about which bananas have adapted to tolerate windy conditions the best.

I grow Basjoo and Sikkimensis in my windy garden, located in North East England. I personally find the more hydrated the plants are kept, the more wind resistant they are.
