The Up the Ladder is one of my favorite tabled false shuffles. With the right speed and rhythm the shuffle looks very much like a legitimate mix of the cards. Practice making the cuts in smooth circular motions.

Been doing this since learning it from Expert Card Technique as s teenager. It's even more effective from the front, because your hands provide shade for the jogged packets. I got a bit obsessed with making the jogs smaller and smaller, but it's actually better to just do it sloppily. Do a push-through riffle shuffle first, stripping the cards with exactly the same motion as the cut sequence, and perhaps a false in-the-hands riffle shuffle including a bridge - so everyone sees the cards going together - and that's about as good as it gets. I don't even bother trying to control a slug these days, because preserving the full order every time is easy enough with practice. The magician and card mechanic, Daniel Madison, said in one of his videos that he always keeps the full order of the deck regardless of whether he needs to do so.

Because the cards end up in the same order as they started... they aren't shuffled at all, but it looks like they have been

Yes, you can choose to stop at the end of any cycle. This can be a lengthy false shuffle, or a short one; it's completely your choice.

@manmuffin71 To guy below me, false part indicates that the cards have not actually been shuffled. Cards retain thier original order so as such it's a false shuffle :)

I discovered this shuffle myself before I watched this video... dang I figured it out just thinking to make table false shuffle... my inspiration was Alex Pandrea's false table shuffle... like a three packet false cut...

it just takes practice, it will get tidier the more you do it. Practice practice practice, hundreds, thousands of times. A good idea is to start without speed, gradually build speed with time. Or even, practice doing it with your eyes closed, that way you gain a greater awareness of what the cards are doing through touch alone. i know it sounds strange, but it really will improve the tidiness of your work. hope this helps.

If you notice at 0:17 the bottom cards are the spades and at 2:09 it's the hearts. This is clearly not a false shuffle. But it's still cool though

Thanks Asad. This will bring some finesse to my gambling sleight moves.
