As a proud infantryman, my hands started hurting just by watching them..

I've seen inmates get over razor wire without a scratch and I've seen them nearly bleed to death.

A signals corporal from the 6th Armoured Div, South Africa, in WW2 told how even a single telephone wire would stop a tank back then. Certain tank units would get out and lift the wire over the tanks, others would just not care, and often paid the price by getting tangled up.

Former Combat Engineer; I HATED having to put this stuff up just to take it down later.

I learned something about laying razor/concertina wire.
OK, It spirals out evenly, you leave the first circle alone, maybe more, then you twist the next segment so it turns the opposite direction. I was very familiar with this with old land lines, telephones attached to the telephone circuit, not wireless. I can't explain how you get it going in the other direction, but I could do it without a problem, the third section stays uniform, the 4th section is twisted reverse, like that, keep going. I bet there is an explanation on the internet.

I was with Combat Developments when the first GPBTO(razor wire) was delivered. It got set up for us to see. An old MSG walked over to it and snipped the plastic clip between loops and it all layed down. I got in trouble for laughing so hard. When it was attacked by a tracked vehicle, it was too brittle and just shattered. Good Luck, Rick

During a nighttime training exercise with the 82nd ABN MPs, a self important Major had his driver run through my field traffic control point secured by a single coil of concertina wire. Since one end was secured to a tree, the wire wrapped around both front wheels and as the wire ran taught, the jeep made a graceful arc right into the ditch :-)

Once again I would like to point out its concertina wire not "constatina" or "constantina" wire. concertina is an accordion style instrument, the wire derives it's name because of its shape.

I work in demolition, and removing this stuff is a nightmare. Always be prepared to get cut up a little

I have installed miles of razor wire. That shit is no joke. The amount of hog rings that you go through just to anchor that stuff down as crazy.

Even plain old 4prong barbed wire is a pain in the ass when it wraps up into your drivetrain.

Someone really looked at this type of stuff and said, “hey, that would make a good tattoo!”

When the middle wire in the photo does not have barbs but you said “barbed wire.”

I was there when that Bradley got all that C-wire stuck in it's tracks. About a company of 1-509 Paratroopers held off two companies of Bradleys for about 10 hours. Good memories.

I've strung thousands of miles of barbed wire, never spent a day in the military. Most farms and ranches have high-quality boundary material laying around in abundance...

As a civilian fence installer I only worked with razor wire a few times. That is some nasty stuff. Prior to working with it I always thought it was sharp-edged like a razor blade, but it’s just those sharp points. We wore double-layer gloves, leather and thick rubber. It pokes through those gloves like they were nothing.

I used to work in fencing and I had to work with practically all kinds of razor and barbed wire variance, we mainly worked in airports and other government vicinities

Had a Marine filet his middle finger on concertina wire one time. Was even wearing gloves when working with it

Speaking of bringing vehicles to a stop. Mid 2000's Iraq, an E-7, an E-6, and an E-5 in a 5-ton truck take some items to a burn pit. Adjacent to the pit is a pile of mattresses. It is raining so the muddy tire tracks leading through the pile are obvious. Under the truck the moving parts have pierced the mattress covers and snagged the springs. The NCO Mafia got stuck and called recovery. The recovery NCO looked at the situation and handed them a bolt cutter off the wrecker; "I recommend wearing eye pro."
Stay safe!
