A look at the Toshiba HX-10 64k MSX home computer kit from my retro collection.

I also take a look at my favorite retro joystick and a surprise peripheral for the MSX.

My dad bought an MSX about 30 years ago and my school mates used to take the piss because they all had Commodore 64's and I felt like the only person in the western world with one of these. I do remember playing Gauntlet to death on this system so just for the fact this was my first gaming experience the MSX gets a thumbs up.

That was the exact kit my parents bought for me in 1984. Loved it and played Nemesis to death on cartridge. Pity it didn’t do so well here in the Uk. Nice to see it in such great condition.

Thank for popping over to watch the video :)

I know what you mean with the keyboards, modern pc keyboards seem to lack something there just not as tactile as the old computer ones. Is nice to find another Cruiser fan, I love that joystick, was definitely built to last.

Nice channel you have there, I've not started to cover any of my ST stuff yet, was thinking about doing Defender of The Crown as my first ST game. The ST version is my favorite one :)

Thanks for the memories. I remember spending hours typing a program into mine which I had about 20+ years ago to play a racing game. You couldn't save it! once it was turned off you had to retype the whole thing again if you wanted to play it

I recently spent close to a £100 to get a mechanical keyboard in order to get an experience close to what used to come as standard with the old micros! XD It's funny how information technology is advancing so rapidly, yet the actual devices most people use to interact with the machines seem to be getting worse! The keyboard on the BBC Micro is probably my favourite; it seems like you could trampoline on that thing without breaking it. Great news about the ST stuff! I wait with breath baited!

Mine came with Manic Miner, Had to buy the cassette player and joystick seperately, Cartridge games were a god send no waiting time for games to load

Fond memories. Was my first 'proper' computer.

I had this 6 games pack, MSX games were hard to find back in the day so this compilation was great... Disc warrior was really hard, I never understood what to do in it.

I don't have a CRT anymore so I plug all my retro computers into an analog freeview box I have then connect that to the tv via scart. Basically the freeview box does all the de modulation for me. I could use the composite but I'm lazy and that means pulling the tv out to get at the back of it, lol.

What do you tend to use RF or Composite? I would have thought Composite would be the better option but because there is only 1 audio I would think the sound would only output on a single TV speaker instead of the dual Mono of the RF which I could see as an annoying drawback for having a bit of a better picture unless if there is a way to make a 1 to 2 y lead to make that mode dual Mono as well.

I don't think I'd have the heart to throw away any 8 bit machine, even if it was so damaged it could not be repaired I'd still keep it for spare parts. I'm a bit of a hoarder when it come to computers :)

Cool that you have an office suite for it.

Do the pens in the plotter still work?

It's practically unheard of in the U.S... I heard it was mainly marketed in Japan, and I've never actually seen one. I don't think many Americans have even heard of it.

The keyboard colours gave me a migraine. Really reminded me of the old 80's Casio keyboards.

Love your avatar BTW thejoyofsticks. Plan B by BugByte software!

They don't make keyboards like that any more, mores the pity. And God bless the Cruiser and all who sail in her, but what on earth were they thinking when they came up with that colour scheme? It's like they just loaded up the plastic moulding machine with all the colours they had left over! Oh, by the way, RetrogamerVX sent me over to help you get to 100 views! ;)

Ah, so this old version can be changed into a system that can play both 1&2 games but maybe not the plus titles?

Superb model of the MSX 1 then if it can be modified to run the bigger titles.

I'd love to get hold of some of the more recent models the MSX2, MSX2+ or turbo, I don't even know if they were ever released here in the uk though.
