This argument breaks down with the discovery of evolution showing us that the cause and measure of perfection is natural selection. That is the beings more perfect can come from the beings less perfect. And so a maximally great being is not required.

Evolutionary logic can be applied to perfection in ideas i.e. the great works of Shakespeare could be produced by an algorithm (hypothetically)
